CARE INSTRUCTIONS

When flannel is made, a combing process is used to raise the nap of the cotton and create a fleecy feel.  This process makes the fabric much more cozy, but also it becomes more susceptible to pilling if not cared for.

Fortunately this is easy.

Before you use your new flannel bedding, it is important to wash it to remove any loose fibers from the napping process.  

Wash no more than one sheet and one pair of pillowcases in as much water as possible (largest load setting on your machine), on a gentle cycle.  Use a very small amount of gentle soap.  When finished, shake the articles well to open them up before putting them into your dryer.  You want each piece to have as much room as possible to tumble dry.  Use medium heat; never hot. You may need to clean the lint trap half way though the drying cycle. 

After using the sheets for the first time, launder them the same way in a small load.  After the first two launderings, you can wash an entire set of sheets together.  Just don’t add anything else to the load as other items can scour the surface of the sheets.   Never use dryer balls when drying flannel – do nothing to aggravate the cotton. 

Anything synthetic in nightwear can pill the cotton.  A lot of people sleep in all sorts of comfortable garments, but check the content.   Pure cottons or silks are fine, but blends with polyester can lead to pilling.
